The Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development serves the needs of 120,000 students throughout the Province. The Department is undertaking exciting changes that will allow it to better meet the needs of students, provide for the most effective teaching in schools, prepare students for good jobs, and strengthen the valuable links between schools, parents and the community.
To this end, we are seeking an educational leader who will be the architect behind these changes and will establish the overall strategic direction for education in Nova Scotia.
What qualities are needed as Deputy Minister?
To begin with, you are fully acquainted with contemporary educational practices and have the vision, open-mindedness and inspiration to undertake new initiatives that will improve the learning experience for students in Nova Scotia.
As a seasoned educator with senior leadership and administrative experience, you have the capability to lead organizational change internally so that the Department itself is best aligned to meet the needs of students.
With a new government in place and a comprehensive curriculum review about to begin, your leadership skills and communication abilities will be put to the test as you play a central role in the review process and the implementation of recommended changes.
You are politically-astute and handle high-profile, contentious situations with poise, confidence, and, most important, integrity. Your negotiation skills are well-developed as you will be called upon frequently to find solutions on behalf of a diverse range of stakeholders with competing interests.
You are an exceptional leader of people with proven experience working in complex environments. As the administrative head of the Department, you have the ability to inspire and motivate staff to high performance and you understand financial management, policy development, long-range planning, and public relations.
Is this you? If so, please forward your resume and a letter describing how your background and experience satisfy the requirements of this position.
