Each month, FEED NOVA SCOTIA, through its 150-member agency food banks and meal programs, assists thousands of people with safe, quality food. At the same time, they provide social programs, research, education, and advocacy as they strive to alleviate hunger and poverty in this province.
The Executive Director of this organization must be a special person. First and foremost, you are an exceptional leader who can combine long-term, visionary thinking with the day-to-day operations of a very busy organization. You are well-known and well-respected in the community and have strong, established relationships in the corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors.
Personally, you have a strong social conscience and have a demonstrated track record of pursuing volunteer causes that contribute to the good of the community.
As the main interface with the Board of Directors, you must be able to work collaboratively with them on policy development, program planning, governance and strategic direction, keeping them abreast of all external and internal issues that could affect the organization.
Operationally, you understand the complexities of running a multi-faceted business that includes everything from trucking and warehousing to budgeting and fund-raising.
You can talk “numbers” as well as any accountant. Terms like budgeting, cash flow, profit and loss statements, capital expenditures, compliance, risk management, and financial reporting, are all second nature to you.
You are very comfortable being the external face of the organization among its various stakeholders that includes the corporate sector, government, personal donors, media and community groups.
And last, but certainly not least, you are an extraordinary leader of people. This is so important because the cherished work of FEED NOVA SCOTIA could not be done without the significant contributions of the many staff and volunteers who serve their community so diligently.
Is this you? If so, please forward your resume and a letter explaining clearly how your background and experience will meet the needs of FEED NOVA SCOTIA. Applications can be emailed to Gerald Walsh Associates Inc. at email@example.com, quoting project number 1603 in the subject line.
The search committee will begin reviewing applications by June 2, 2014.
