EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - LakeCity Employment Services Association- POSITION FILLED

LakeCity Employment is a not-for-profit organization, located in Dartmouth, NS, that offers free employment services to people with a mental illness. Their goal is to help these individuals improve their quality of life by assisting them to gain independence through work. Currently, 200 people are employed in their Community Employment Program.

They also operate a successful social enterprise – LakeCity Woodworkers – where they produce and sell commercial wooden products and furniture to further support their goal. An additional 50 people are employed in their production facility and retail store.

With the pending retirement of the current Executive Director, the Board of Directors is now seeking an experienced person to assume a leadership role in the operation of LakeCity and the strategic implementation of the organization’s client-focused mandate.

Reporting to a committed and involved Board of Directors, your responsibilities will include:

  • Playing a leadership role in the advancement of LakeCity’s mission;
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the organization;
  • Ensuring all clients are provided with a range of employment and program options including job training, work and life skills development, and community employment.
  • Overseeing the delivery of effective and individualized programs for clients;
  • Preparing funding applications and maintaining constructive relationships with governmental and non-governmental funding agencies;
  • Providing leadership and supervision to staff members; and
  • Providing clear and ongoing reporting to the Board with respect to the operations and long-term direction of LakeCity.

As the ideal candidate, you are a service-oriented leader whose strong personal values reflect those of LakeCity. Preferably you have leadership experience working with adults with mental illness or other disabilities, although consideration will be given to candidates with relevant experience in other sectors. You have appropriate academic credentials and possess a strong blend of personal qualities that include planning, communication (written and oral), compassion for others, and problem-solving skills.

You understand all the management and operational aspects of running a busy, not-for-profit organization. This encompasses public relations and advocacy, fund raising, financial management, human resources, program planning and delivery, risk management, health and safety, and facilities management.
