Waterfront Development is a Nova Scotia crown corporation with significant waterfront assets in Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford and Lunenburg. Their role is to ensure these lands and buildings are planned, developed, managed and programmed, in partnership with the private sector, to drive economic prosperity for Nova Scotia. Their work maintains public access to water’s edge and ensures the waterfronts are key destinations for residents and visitors, and platforms for business success. They are now seeking a finance and accounting professional to serve on their senior leadership team and help advance their overall mission.
Reporting to the President and CEO, you will be responsible for providing strong leadership in the areas of accounting, finance, and administration. Supervising a small team, you will oversee all financial reporting and analysis, long-term financial planning, risk management, budgeting, audit and internal control, including budgeting, financing and forecasting related to large scale multi-year development projects. You will maintain key relationships with government stakeholders and present financial updates as required. You will be a key executive interfacing with the Board of Waterfront Development especially with the Finance and Risk Management Committee of the Board.
You will also play an important strategic role when analyzing new business opportunities and proposals and will measure the long-term financial impact of these investments.
As the ideal candidate, you are a seasoned financial professional with strong leadership and management skills. In addition to holding your professional accounting designation (CPA), you have a broad range of skills in accounting, finance, and administration. Ideally, you have exposure to large, multi-year development and construction projects including the budgeting, financing and forecasting for these types of projects. You are familiar with all aspects of risk management and understand the importance of external relations, particularly government relations.
Personally, you have good business acumen and exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal. You are committed to a consultative, consensus-building approach to decision-making and exercise sound judgment at all times. You have the capability and work ethic to manage multiple priorities in a busy work environment. You are well organized and utilize effective time management skills to meet deadlines.
