FEED NOVA SCOTIA feeds hungry people by collecting and distributing food to more than 147 member agency food banks, shelters and meal programs throughout Nova Scotia. At the same time, they provide support programs, research and awareness as they strive to alleviate chronic hunger and poverty in this province.
As Warehouse Manager, you will play an important role on the supply chain side by ensuring that the logistics of food activities throughout all warehouses are run efficiently and cost effectively. In doing this job, you will coach and mentor staff and volunteers, implement improved logistical processes, and introduce new technologies to optimize the flow of food from source to member agencies. All this must be done while respecting occupational health and food safety standards.
What qualities are needed in this role?
Technically, you have a strong background in warehouse logistics and processes – ideally in the food industry – and well-developed management and leadership skills.
You have a solid understanding of how technology can be deployed to streamline operations and ensure that clients receive a better overall experience. An engaging leader of people, you command the respect and support of both staff and volunteers while at the same time holding them accountable for their productivity and collective experience.
Operationally, you are a well-organized and detail-minded planner who is willing to be hands-on when needed. And last – but certainly not least – you have a strong social conscience and are willing and emotionally committed to doing what it takes to help those who are in need.
