Chief Administrative Officer - Town of Woodstock, New Brunswick

New Brunswick’s First Town – the Town of Woodstock – is a vibrant, prosperous community located on the Upper Saint John River Valley, about one hour north of Fredericton. While respecting the past and looking toward the future, Woodstock is a regional retail and commercial hub for key industry sectors such as agriculture, forestry, transportation, and education.

On their behalf, we are seeking a highly-respected and proven leader as its Chief Administrative Officer.

What qualities are needed as CAO?

As CAO, you are the administrative head of the municipality and responsible for managing its activities in accordance with the Local Governance Act of New Brunswick. You are accountable for ensuring that Council’s strategic and business plans, goals and objectives are met while providing advice and support for the daily operations the municipality. There are six direct reports and nearly 55 full-time staff, with an overall combined budget of nearly $14 million.

Ideally, you are an innovative leader who is comfortable communicating and collaborating across the organization. You are also effective in building relationships with the Mayor, Council, all levels of government, business, and community organizations.

You have several years’ senior leadership experience in government, business, or the not-for-profit sector. You have academic or professional credentials in business, economic development, labour relations, financial management, urban planning, or a related field.

You are familiar with the challenges facing rural municipalities and possess well-developed personal qualities including integrity, personal values, communication, problem solving and leadership skills.

Some of Council’s current priorities include addressing new financial and capital planning standards as well as renewing polices and bylaws. The Town of Woodstock is looking to ensure continuing momentum on its renewal of a municipal plan, including a long-term strategy for land development, downtown revitalization, and climate change adaptation.
