Work After 55.

At some point after 55, many people quietly ask the same question:

What does work look like for me now?

Not everyone asks it for the same reason. Some have been laid off. Some retired and realized they weren’t ready. Some still need to work for financial reasons, family reasons, or simply because they want purpose and structure in their days. Some feel invisible in a job market that seems built for someone younger.

If that sounds familiar, you’re in the right place.

I’m Gerald Walsh, and this site is a collection of my writing for people navigating work, money, identity, and meaning in the later stages of their careers. It’s not about chasing what you used to have. It’s about making sense of where you are now and seeing what’s still possible.

Who is this site for

You may see yourself in one (or several) of these situations:

  • You’re over 55 and looking for work in a job market that feels younger than you.
  • You’ve been let go, downsized, or encouraged to “retire” before you were ready.
  • You retired voluntarily, but now find you miss the structure, income, or purpose that work provided.
  • You’re in a second (or third) marriage, still have financial responsibilities, and need your income to continue.
  • Your references are retired, your network feels quiet, or you’re worried you’ve become “invisible.”
  • You’re anxious about money, the future, or whether anyone will hire you at this age.

If any of that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. These articles are meant to speak directly to those realities.
