About

Let me share a bit about who I am:

Experience and Education

Earlier in my career, I worked in several industries including construction, technology, and commercial banking. In 1990, I embarked on an entrepreneurial journey by founding Gerald Walsh Associates Inc., an executive search and HR advisory firm. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with many organizations, helping them hire, manage, and develop their employees.

My expertise has been sought by not-for-profits, municipalities, corporations, owner-managed businesses, school boards, government bodies, public sector agencies, as well as industry and professional associations.

Beyond completing thousands of executive search assignments across management and professional levels, I’ve been a trusted advisor in all facets of talent management, including recruitment, compensation and benefits, performance management, succession planning, training and development, policy development, and workforce planning.

I’m a professional accountant (CPA) by training and hold an MBA. I’ve also completed board governance training through the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Writing

Writing has always been a passion of mine, and I’ve had the pleasure of sharing my insights on careers, hiring, talent management, and leadership for various publications.

In 2017, I published a book called PINNACLE: How to Land the Right Job and Find Fulfillment in Your Career. The book was written with the intention of guiding young professionals through to late-career individuals toward finding meaning, enjoyment, and fair pay in their careers.

I have written over 350 newsletters and articles about hiring, compensation, performance management, job search, careers, and more. I also served as producer and host of the cable TV series Take This Job and Love It, a weekly broadcast.

Speaking and Workshops

One of my core values is the sharing of my knowledge with others. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to share my experiences through keynote speeches and workshops with diverse audiences, including professional groups, industry associations, not-for-profit organizations, universities, and corporations.

Community

“Everyone Deserves a Chance” is an initiative I began to provide support for individuals who, due to circumstances beyond their control, face obstacles they cannot easily overcome. My support is centred around three key areas: funding for a community food program that delivers weekend food hampers to children dealing with poverty and food insecurity; job search support for immigrants who face an uphill battle finding suitable employment; and HR assistance to organizations that help disadvantaged individuals.

Additionally, I co-founded the highly successful Blue Nose Marathon, which attracts over 14,000 participants. I was honoured to receive the Champion of Public Education award from The Learning Partnership for my role in co-founding this event which has inspired thousands of youth to pursue healthy and active lifestyles. I have previously served as chair of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and currently hold the position of chair of the board of directors for the Devour Food Film Festival.

Fitness

While I have been involved in many volunteer and community pursuits, my passion has always been long-distance running. Over the course of my lifetime, I have completed 27 full and half marathons and run more than 30,000 miles. However, the rigours of running eventually caught up with me, and I am now an avid walker and gym enthusiast, which I find equally fulfilling.

The Next Chapter

As I embark on the next phase of my career journey, I remain deeply passionate about helping organizations do a better job at hiring, managing and developing their employees. In this new chapter, my focus will shift toward writing insightful articles and newsletters, producing engaging podcasts, conducting workshops, and selectively taking on consulting assignments.
